About The Book: Giving up a night out on the town with the guys is an easy sacrifice, but JT is determined to find out one way or another if the sexual tension he senses in Jacob Cordero is all in his mind. Keeping secrets in a bunkhouse is almost impossible, especially when an accident on an unbroken horse lands him right where he wants to be…in Jacob’s bed.

The Review:
Whoa boy! Or should I say cowboy? For a quick ten pages, this erotic short story was hot, hot, hot! Immediately Eve Cassidy yanked my chain and pulled me into this little trist between two cowboys left alone in a bunkhouse had them sheets scorching and definitely made for a nice bedtime story.

The scene was set up perfectly, with one man injured and the other comforting him. The description Ms. Cassidy gives of J.T. as a stubborn, ‘I can tough out the pain’ attitude, contrasted against the almost nurturing response of Jacob had me cheering on these two boys. They maybe cowboys who love a good rodeo, but I think they also found a new event of their own. The sex, in a word, HOT!

I highly recommend this one and I hope Ms. Cassidy has plans for J.T. and Jacob. They make for a great couple and I would love to see more of these two on the rodeo circuit.

About the Book:
Evin KinKaid, the only son of the KinKaid pack’s alpha, has a secret. One that will tear his family apart. In two years, Evin is to succeed his father as alpha leader and continue the dominate bloodline of his family. There’s only one problem: Evin is gay. When Evin is pushed into the bed of his intended female mate, he’s forced to reveal the truth. And for an alpha male wolf shifter promised to a female whose goal is to one day be queen…come out has never been more explosive.

Mason Thorne II, heir to Thorn Global Inc., life is a lie. To sustain his father’s love, Mason has agreed to stay in the family business and to one day assume his place as CEO. Instead of reaching for his heart’s desire, he’s settled for a life that’s not his own. But an unexpected auto accident will send both Evin and Mason into each other’s arms and down a path toward a destiny neither man can escape: an eternity sealed in blood.

The Review:
Evin KinKaid is a man with a mountain of problems; an arranged marriage, being heir to his father’s pack, and being gay is making for an explosive mix. When he attempts to explain to his childhood friend and betrothed about his sexual orientation she immediately betrays him, which earns him banishment from the pack.

Mason Thorne II is the quintessential trust fund baby, complete with overpowering father. While bending to his father’s will when it comes to his education and his profession with the family business, he also mildly rebels by taking a vacation with his guitar. While on the way home from this holiday he crashes his car and finds his saving grace in the form of Evin KinKaid, mechanic/sex-on-a-stick.

This book is an absolute paranormal masterpiece that grabs you at the first word and refuses to let you go until the very end. The struggles that each of the men experience is both realistic and can be universal when it comes to the need to please. The multi-dimensional characters force the reader to fall in love with them and their struggle as they fall in love.

Along with being a moving love story, the sex scenes are deliciously naughty. The author builds each encounter to perfection making sure to include the pure love, lust, and emotions into every caress, culminating in an exquisite explosion. This is definitely a must read and a must re-read.

When a captivating scent leads him to a Halloween party, he finds Gwenny. The witch is everything he never even knew to dream of. Unable to resist Alessandro's wicked allure, Gwenny doesn’t realize the danger she's in until their night of passion comes to an end. If Lucifer's demands are refused, will they both survive, or will Gwenny lose her heart and soul to her cinnamon-loving demon?

The Review:
Demons Love Cinnamon is a paranormal short story with a twist between a demon and a witch and I could not put it down. The storyline was well developed and flowed nicely at a pace that kept me turning the pages. The author's writing style was easy to read and I felt the emotion of the characters from scene to scene.

The only complaint I would have was that it ended way too soon as it was a very short read. I felt at times that the author seemed a bit rushed and could have fleshed out the story just a bit more, so the reader really had the time to get to know the characters a bit better.

However, this small detail was not enough to keep me from devouring this story. I could not put this book down until I had finished and look forward to reading more by this author. Demons Love Cinnamon is in my keeper pile. It's a fantastic story by Kate Richards.

Evin KinKaid has it all: the title of alpha of the KinKaid wolf shifter pack and the man he loves, his mate, Mason Thorne II in his bed. But across territorial lines, it seems another pack is conspiring to see just how badly he wants to keep them both. So when the Gregorson pack tests its boundaries, leaving Evin to find his home ransacked and his mate nowhere to be found, the rival shifters learn what it’s like to gain the KinKaid’s alpha’s full attention.

The Review:
Evin KinKaid finally has it all: he is the alpha of his pack; has his loyal mate, Mason, at his side; and everything in his life is going perfectly. Everything until the neighboring pack decides to test the boundaries of the KinKaid domain.

This book allows the reader to reintroduce themselves to Evin KinKaid and his mate, Mason Thorne, II. The powerful love between the two men is plain to see without being over powering. The fear and tension when Mason goes missing is palatable and drives home the feeling that this is a true love story. This book sends the reader on a nonstop ride of highs and lows; complete with naughty interludes that are beyond HOT.

About The Book:
Carla Montes and Edward Gardner are both third year law students finishing their last final before graduation. They've been study partners all year, but on the eve of the final, what starts as hot and steamy sex in one of the study rooms in the campus library blossoms into something much more.

The Review:
The pressure of the final exam had finally gotten the best of both Carla and Edward. Seeing as how the time to part was fast approaching, they decide to throw caution to the wind and act on the lust they've each secretly held in check from the other. Now, with their lust satisfied, feelings are developing, but the real world calls and the inevitable separation that will take them into the next phase of their lives.

Things in this story progress quickly between the characters and unfortunately left me wanting more. The characters come from different backgrounds and I would've really liked to have seen their attraction and chemistry for one another explored a bit more. There is still a little bit of an unknown by the end, but for a quickie, it is quite enjoyable with enough heat to have me seeking out what else this author has to offer.

About The Book: Heather adores her flighty sister's boyfriend, Mark. He's Mr. Right, and her sister is about to let him go. He's a catch, and Heather's only chance is to play out her sister's insane and wicked plan to switch in the dark. If she fails, she'll lose him to the throng of girls waiting in the wings. It's a winner takes all arena and seduction is the game.

The Review: It’s clear that Theresa is the fun loving adventurous sister, while Heather is the ambitious and quiet one. That’s not to say that Heather is a total bore, but perhaps a little more mature than her older sister. Theresa is interested in playing the field, while Heather sought stability in her next relationship. When it comes to Mark, Theresa’s current boyfriend, the sisters whole-heartedly agree the man is hot, but Theresa is looking for a little more excitement. Instead of letting a good man get away, Theresa devises a plan that has Heather all tied up in knots. Can she throw caution and inhibition aside or will she let a possible chance at happiness get away?

Sisters can sometimes be the little devil on your shoulder that tips the balance of what you believe is right or wrong. I would know since I have several, so Theresa’s character comes across very familiar to me. The author does a fantastic job of giving each of the characters a voice that’s clear and relatable. The plot might not be completely relatable, but that doesn’t detract from the intense eroticism or sweet undertones in the story. Overall a very enjoyable short read!

About The Book:
Becoming parents wreaked havoc on their intimacy, but would their love be strong enough to survive and get their sex life back on track?

The Review:
Will or won’t Jayden’s parents get their groove back?
There are many ‘firsts’ that parents go through after having their first child and intimacy issues are no exception. Julie and Ray are in sync when it comes to their son, Jayden, but out of touch when it comes to their sex life. Julie doesn’t understand why some things are continuing to hold Ray back from her. She wants him to recognize her not just as a mom, but as the woman he fell in love with and married. Ray unfortunately, is too caught up in the past to see what is right in front him.
This story is refreshing in a way that allows readers to see how a baby might change things from a husband/father’s perspective. There are many real life stories that evolve around the changes that happen to a woman after having a baby both physically and emotionally and the resulting marital problems, but how many delve into the male aspect?
This is a quick read, but the pages heat up quite nicely. I can only complain that I would’ve loved to see the story continue, but the point of the story was definitely made. This is my first read by S.E. Holden and one in which I really enjoyed as it is thought provoking and erotic.

The Book: Camilla has been living with Brandt, a vampire bounty hunter, since she was thirteen. Camilla knows her blood is different from other humans but has no idea how or why. Camilla is kidnapped and given to an ancient vampire to awaken him from a long sleep and to feed from. Camilla tries to resist Vladislas but finds herself drawn to his power and sexuality.

Brandt, a vampire bounty hunter has been in lust with vampire Elisa for a long time. She wants him just as much, and sets out to entice him with her body. Will she succeed in winning him over?

The Review: Considering this was a very short story, the development of the plot was great. The story was complete in both parts one and two: The first section is the story of Camilla and Vladislas; and the second section of the story is about Brandt and Elisa.
The sex scenes are hot and I didn't feel like I was left hanging by the story being told in these two sections. A great short read by Mary Corrales. I look forward to reading more of her work.

About The Book:

After a car accident last Christmas, Cara McCourt is left broken inside and out. Since then, no guy has bothered to give her the time of day. Just when she's convinced that no man will ever be interested in her again, she bumps into Anthony while holiday shopping. Unsure at first, Cara is quickly wooed by the man who thinks she is beautiful—despite her disfigurement.

Uncertain if Anthony is too good to be true, she takes a chance, only to find out he's been keeping a secret: His twin brother, Devon. Too late, Cara is drawn into their games. Will her wounded soul survive their deceit or did Santa actually bring her the ultimate gift: two men of her own?

The Review:
Two is Twice as Nice is a fast paced and sweet read.
I liked Cara from the start. Even though an accident has taken some of her outer beauty away she still carries an inner beauty that shines like a beacon. Anthony is a wonderful man who seems to think the world of Cara. The relationship that builds between the two was a nice read. I enjoyed seeing Cara begin to feel better about herself as she continues to see Anthony. His twin brother Devon came off as the total opposite of Anthony. We see the big difference between the brothers when they finally tell Cara about themselves and being twins. Devon seems like a real jerk and happy to play games with women. He was a little too cocky and proud that he got one over on Cara and his brother.
I would have enjoyed a longer story so that we could get to know the brothers personalities and maybe find out just why Devon is the way he is and if he really cares for Cara.
All in all this book was a nice quick read about finding love when you last expect it. I really liked the premise of the story. Showing that love really does conquer all.

About The Book: The Bowdancer Saga continues with The Wayfarer’s Road. Jan-nell, now a woman traveling alone with her precocious young daughter, meets a handsome wandering bard. But he is carrying his own secrets along with the priceless chance at hope for her and her child to belong.

The Review: Fully enamored with The Bowdancer, the first book of this saga, I looked forward to reviewing The Wayfarer’s Road with great anticipation. Once more, author Janie Franz did not disappoint. Not in the least. Her writing, characters and plot are exquisite. My single, lingering wish would be for an accurate depiction of Jan-nell, an earthier and less frosted character, on the cover.
Jan-nell is the young and naive healer who left the stifling safety of her village in a fit of romance with Bastin, a traveling ruffian who challenged Jan-nell to acknowledge her inner-most desires. In the space between book 1 and 2, Bastin continues to chase passionately after far-fetched dreams in untethered travels, leaving Jan-nell to give birth and raise their now 4-year-old daughter, Mira-nell, alone.
The road has been less than kind to Jan-nell as she scrapes by with invigorated strength to support what is left of her fractured family. Unable to return to her own village, she and Mira-nell sleep under cover of the forest between unfamiliar villages in need of a traveling midwife. Jan-nell’s daughter, inheriting Jan-nell’s determination and ability to read people, as well as the quick wit and biting honesty of her father, has learned to fend well for herself too.
We join mother and daughter as they seek shelter from the rain in a stable adjoined to the local inn. Here, the innkeeper mistakes the single mother for a whore, hurling insults and providing only the very least of his generosity – which includes a late-night visit with his band of bullying patrons for ill-perceived services.
Enter Khrin, a handsome, gentle, traveling merry-maker who charms brothel audiences with his lute and lyrics. Taking a shine to Jan-nell, he helps her thwart the unwelcome, late-night advances of the innkeeper’s owner.
As the three flee together, they become reliant upon one another, traveling deeper into danger and having to draw upon one another’s skills for survival. Together they fend off not only the randy innkeeper, but a band of brutal villagers angered by Khrin’s affinity for men, a disillusioned kidnapper, hunger, bruises, boredom, cold and loneliness.
While Jan-nell, Mira-nell and Khrin couldn’t be more different, they complement each other well and, in a short span of time, they learn they are not so different after all. Aside from a life deeply rooted in song (but for young Mira-nell whose only interest to learn is on an as-needed basis), each is misunderstood, longs for belonging, and only cautiously trusts the other.
With childhood innocence, curiosity and honesty that cuts to the quick of social construct, young Mira-nell is instrumental in teaching Jan-nell and Khrin to question the comfort of their ingrained perceptions, including those of sexual orientation.
Khrin’s intentions and Jan-nell’s ponderance of their possibility reveals that one must honestly assess inner desire and realize that there are no rules of engagement but for those imposed upon us. If the interaction between these complex characters seems eerily confusing, the author is simply asking us, in a not-so-subtle way, to challenge the comfort of our own limiting assumptions.
Will Jan-nell, Mira-nell and Khrin satisfy their need for love in one another as friend, father, brother or lover? Will they find utter rejection or the safety of acceptance in the village Khrin once abandoned near the hills of the Warrior Women? Read on to find out - but be forewarned. This story will leave you ravenous for the saga’s third book, Warrior Women, which I’ll delve into next with tremendous curiosity.
Pagan Elements:

Jan-nell often references the healing power of herbal treatments, drawing from the natural powers of an earthly yield. She also draws on the healing power of traditional village song and dance. In particular, she employs a song illustrating the stages of a woman’s life, which is, ironically, used to heal Khrin’s bruises through stretching.

About The Book: Can a hot fling on a Wyoming ranch lead to more than just sex?

Tired of bringing home unsatisfying, nameless men, Delia Hawthorne needs a change of pace. When her Aunt invites her to spend some time at their family’s Wyoming ranch, it takes little prodding for her to agree. Time away from work, bars, and men is exactly the break she's been looking for.

When Delia arrives, she finds what she has come to avoid: take-charge ranch hand, Lucas Dane. Despite her Aunt’s warning of Lucas’ womanizing reputation, she decides he may be worth the risk. What starts out as just sex quickly turns into more, forcing Delia to choose between the guy she is falling in love with and her responsibilities back home. What's a city girl to do?

The Review:
After graduating from college, Delia became focused and very career-driven on the new company she started with her friend. That left very little time to go back to the ranch she had spent many of her summers. Her aunt finally convinces her to come for a visit with the joyful news of the birth of a foal to Delia's horse Snickers. Delia begins to reminisce and soon finds it hard to reason her way out of not going, especially now that her personal life feels meaningless. A trip out to the country just might be the trick to getting her out of her own personal funk.

Lucas is probably best know on the ranch for his womanizing ways, but the hard work he puts in doesn't go unnoticed. He reasons that his reputation is in part because of the mundane routine he has in his life and although it's not a bad life, it can be a lonely one. It isn't until the day a little spitfire of a city girl decides to trip into his life on stilettos, does he actually begin to feel something other than just lust at first sight.
I found both Delia and Lucas to have very similar characteristics even though they come from two totally different worlds. They both have had plenty of meaningless sex, are stubborn, flirtatious, independent, and smart in their respective careers, but both seem to be looking for something more out of life than just a good time. It's exactly those similar characteristics that bring them to instant attraction and soon heedless of the warnings tossed their way, find that they are compatible in more ways than one. Then the day comes that reality makes a call and Delia knows she has to make a choice. Delia has always been the one to kick out men from her bed before; this confidence stemming from the lack of distrust for them that she's earned after a cheater in her past. How can she throw away all that she's worked for on the whim of finding companionship with a ranch hand? Delia's vacation turns into a hard lesson in self-discovery for both of them.
This is a quick read with very well established characters and settings. I wouldn't have minded if this story was a bit longer since the ending seemed kind of rushed, but overall it was enjoyable.
Recommended reading for those looking for a quick roll in the hay with a handsome cowboy.

Naughty Can Be Nice by Cynthia Selwyn

THE PAGAN & THE PEN BOOK REVIEWS

Title:  Naughty Can Be Nice
Author: Cynthia Selwyn
Publisher: Breathless Press
Genre: Holiday Romance/Erotic
Length: 33 pgs.

About The Book: Legal guardian Brenna O’Brien didn’t expect to become a single mom, especially of seven-year-old twins with troubles. What she needs is a good dose of sexual pleasure to swipe all her emotional burdens away.

Kris Kringle, Jr. doesn’t want to fill in for his dad. But when he meets a lovely lady at a Christmas party, he changes his mind; he wouldn’t mind filling her…stocking.

One wish is all it takes for the sexy Santa she met to appear in her living room, wearing nothing but his boots, his red velvet hat and a silver bow. Because at Christmas, all heartfelt wishes can come true

The Review: Naughty Can Be Nice is a beautiful read about believing in miracles and finding true love. I was pulled into Brenna’s world right from the start.
Brenna is a wonderful woman, so full of love for her nieces and yet so overwhelmed at what has happened to them and their family. When she meets Kris at the hospitals children party and makes a wish Brenna may just get the wish of her life granted. Kris is a great man who wants to help those in need and Brenna is certainly in need and he plans on helping her as much as he can. The two make a sweet couple and with the twins they are a beautiful family.
Cynthia Selwyn weaves a magical tale that had me glued to the pages hoping that Brenna would get her Christmas wish. As hot as the sex scenes are in this book the love shared by Kris and Brenna shines right off of the pages making this a beautiful love story that should not be missed.
Naughty Can Be Nice brings the real reason for the season (love) to the forefront. We often forget that gifts are not the main focus of the season and this story reminds us of just that.

Title: The Promise
Author: Ambrielle Kirk
Buy Link
Publisher: Breathless Press
Genre: Contemporary/Holiday/Erotic/Romance
Length: 13 pgs.

About The Book: Craig has been waiting for the right time to show Tina just how badly he wants her. His patience pays off when she visits him on his Christmas tree farm.

Tina could care less about buying a tree to decorate her home this holiday season. She's more concerned with the naughty promise he made to her months ago. For this couple, fulfillment of a promise could mean the beginning of a steamy rendezvous.

The Review: The Promise is a very quick, erotic read that I enjoyed. The story is well written and speeds along to a very satisfying climax. While the only part of the holidays referred to is the Christmas tree Tina has gone out to buy, deliberately choosing part-time handy man, Craig who has worked on Tina's pipes a time or two.

Both Tina and Craig are likable but with their ongoing mutual attraction, it's hard to believe these two waited so long to consummate their feelings for one another. I do think the story would have benefited if it was a bit longer, but all in all, it is a pleasurable quickie for the holiday season.
