About The Book: An old man and a young girl are unlikely lovers, but what happens when a magical bird starts to sing? Bagonoun's Wonderful Songbird is an improbable love story that takes place on the island Nauru in the South Pacific. Sometimes miracles come true.

The Review: This delightful short story is a sweet modern day myth; something I could picture being told around a campfire on warm summer evenings before the children scurry off to bed. There is a warmth to the narration that draws the reader in and invites them to momentarily suspend disbelief and enter a mythological world where everything is not as it seems.

Initially, I didn’t like the male character. But as the story developed, I realized that my dislike was directly related to his frame of mind and viewpoint. As his personality softened and his perspective expanded, I liked him more and more, until by the end of the story, I was rooting for him to win both the contest and the girl. The ending of the story was exactly the kind of transformational magick that I would expect from a good faerie tale or myth. I was definitely satisfied by the ending – a mixture of hope, faith, love, and magick that gave me the same feeling as an ice-cream cone on a hot summer day—refreshing, and sweet.

Pagan Elements: Cultural myths come to life and magickally transform the two main characters into physical representations of their spiritual selves.

Cover (Rated 1-10): 4 I’m not sure what I would suggest in lieu of the cover here, but the image was very cliché romance novel, and this is not a very cliché romance story. I didn’t feel that the cover did the story justice.
